This is such an unfortunate article.
While it makes several important points, it is all over the shop in terms of identifying ‘culprits’.
First, it is a definition issue: the majority of execs/decion makers do not understand ‘AI’; specifically, the scope and capabilities of ‘intelligence’ (general v. specific).
Second, it is a directional issue: the problem to be solved needs to be both clearly articulated and delineated. Most organisations skip this step, or use vague/motherhood definitions.
Third, it is a data issue: confident predictions require a wealth of solid, well groomed and normalised data. Few sectors have that currently, given the dynamic nature of what is happening in markets today.
My bet is on smart software elevating the detection of anomalies and trends against key customer/business metrics using realtime data so that experienced and well-briefed ‘wetware’ can identify, react to and understand opportunities to adapt (or risks to avoid) earlier.
