I generally don't recommend books or podcasts on LinkedIn, but I'm going to break my rule (twice!) in my first post for 2024.

1. Exadelic (book) - I finished this book over the New Year weekend. While it sets up the initial plot using several very current fears about malevolent AIs gone wild, the author also leans into other, existential fears, including that we live in a computer simulation and the risks created when technological leadership is centralised in the hands of a select few very profitable companies. The author manages to explore quite a few deep questions, including what makes us human in the context of a race towards technological singularity. (https://lnkd.in/gkRM7HxA).

2. The GeoPolitical Implications of A.I. (podcast) - This podcast, where Om Malik interviews Sean Gourley, founder of data and machine learning-focused startups Quid and Primer, is one of the best explorations I've heard of several A.I.-related risks, including its impact on the workforce (and how poorly we have learnt the lessons from past industrial revolutions), the coming "Chip War" between the US & China (and the related risks generated by the lack of regulation of TikTok), and the potential abuse of deep fake content in upcoming elections.
