There are so many dynamics at play here - geopolitical, market (product), technological, sociological, financial/funding (valuation), and most certainly cultural and generational.

This isn’t just the ‘dirty’ intersection of two trends (say, tech and economics).

It is akin to 3D (4D?) chess: DC vs AC meets railway gauges meets OS wars meets church and state separation (with a side of small and big ‘L’ liberal/libertarian to boot).

My bet?

1. Facebook has already wrong footed itself, believing it to be sprint, not a marathon.
2. The genesis of a foundational platform won’t come from a Western country.
