We live in interesting times.
Yahoo!, a (former) global behemoth, suffered a massive, multi-year data breach that affected 3 billion accounts (effectively every Yahoo! customer).
Cue massive class lawsuits that - eventually - got settled for USD$117M, with damages payable....if you live in America or Israel...
Data breaches/loss are an iceberg issue.
Public perception is (increasingly) that companies don’t take data protection seriously, and that there is lax legal protection/reparation for negligent/incompetent actions.
Not a good environment given the increasing importance of both trust AND data in a significant % of current and emerging business models.
