Apropos of yesterday’s post re: data and trust, this is just staggering.

I’m not sure whether I believe that a senior product person in a global tech company (with layers of lawyers- and policy-type advisors on tap) hadn’t thought of this question before.

Irrespective, this is a telling admission.

If we were to extend this thinking to, say, Amazon’s Ring home security device (which records video footage to the cloud 24/7, and is usually pointed away from a home towards a street i.e a public space), and which Amazon has acknowledged they use to ‘partner’ with (*cough* sell services) to police, it raises the question: what needs to be disclosed to who, and when?

Of course, that is just one example of many privately owned/operated, public-facing tech devices / services in the market today recording who knows what, and available to who knows who...
