Pandemics are widely understood to expose the weaknesses of afflicted populations in unexpected ways: they are crises that destabilise the status quo, causing a lot of commonly held beliefs to be questioned, thereby revealing strengths and weaknesses of governing systems.

We have witnessed many (devastating) societal and structural weaknesses in recent weeks.

Over the coming months, COVID-19 will - in catalysing a collective, societal immune response - accelerate several emergent themes that have already turned the dial on cultural, societal, political and economic change.

It is too premature to firmly predict outcomes, but the early signs of change are already with us.
