While the research was only concerned with a very specific HCI use case (people driving cars), it is a great reminder that we should always resist the lazy thinking inherent in ‘digital is always best’.

Replacing analogue processes and interfaces with digital touchpoints has indeed led to significant boosts in efficiency and improved experiences, but that doesn’t mean it should be our default assumption.
