I'm thrilled to share a significant milestone in our journey at LeapForward: Apple and Google have approved the release of LeapForward's version 2 mobile app.

What started as a successful web-based post-pandemic minimum viable product (MVP) that reimagined how return-to-work support could be delivered - shifting from traditional in-person coaching to digital-first behavioural change interventions - has evolved into a comprehensive mobile platform that meets injured workers exactly where they are in their journey.

Our initial MVP demonstrated through university-led pilot studies that digital delivery can effectively assist workers during transitions and manage anxiety, stress, pain, and health and wellness goals. This approach enables them to return to work as quickly, or even faster, than traditional offline support programs.

With our version 2 app, we're taking that proven approach to the next level.

The Evolution

Armed with rich insights from extensive user research - including in-depth interviews with insurance partners and ethnographic studies with end-users - we uncovered a crucial insight: the future of biopsychosocial behaviour change needed to be mobile-first.

This wasn't just about changing platforms; it was about fundamentally reimagining the user journey.

Through multiple rounds of prototyping and testing, we discovered how mobile-native features could transform engagement. By thoughtfully integrating behavioural science principles with mobile interaction patterns that users already love - like micro-interactions, haptic feedback, and contextual nudges - we've created an experience that feels both natural and transformative in users' daily lives.

Key Innovations:

- Redesigned 6-week program with adaptive weekly journeys
- Smart daily check-ins that foster lasting habits
- Evidence-based goal-setting framework
- Streamlined progression tracking

Introducing Lucy

In version 2, we are excited to introduce Lucy, an AI-powered coach available 24/7.

While she handles day-to-day guidance and support for our customers during the program, our human experts remain accessible via chat during business hours - combining the best of AI and human support.

The Impact

Our updated approach shifts us from a "human-delivered service supported by software" to a genuine "software as a service, aided by humans." This balance between software and humans is essential due to the evolving nature of LLM technologies and, of course, the vulnerabilities of our customers.

Our pivot has already earned enthusiastic validation from our insurance partners, positioning us perfectly for scalable growth.

Stay tuned as we prepare to launch this next chapter in digital health & wellness intervention.
