The AI Paradox Nobody Is Talking About Honestly

AI has made content essentially free to produce. That part everyone agrees on. What's less discussed: the cost of knowing whether any given piece of content is real has gone up dramatically at the same time.

Balaji Srinivasan put it clearly on the a16z podcast this week. Every advance in generative AI that lowers the cost of creation also raises the cost of verification. The two move in lockstep. And that asymmetry has a compounding effect — the more content there is, the more expensive and scarce reliable verification becomes.

This matters for every business that relies on trust. It means the moat isn't producing content faster. It's becoming an entity that people trust without needing to verify. That's a brand problem, a relationship problem, and a distribution problem all at once. The companies that figure this out early - and build reputations that don't need a footnote - will have a structural advantage that no competitor with a better AI stack can easily replicate.
